About the circuit
The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, formerly known as Autodromo di Santamonica, is a 4.2 km motorsport racing circuit in Misano Adriatico (RN), Italy. The track is currently used for events such as the San Marino Grand Prix in the Motorcycle World Championship and a round of the Superbike World Championship.
From autumn 2006 to spring 2007, the route was extensively rebuilt and revised, primarily reversing the direction of travel (now clockwise). This change allowed the run-off zones to be expanded and track safety improved to meet the requirements of the MotoGP class.
The name change to Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli came after the tragic death of motorcycle racer Marco Simoncelli in Sepang in 2011. Simoncelli came from Cattolica, in the immediate vicinity of Misano Adriatico. The circuit was originally intended to be named the Marco Simoncelli Circuit after him, but the current name was ultimately chosen.
