About the circuit
The Red Bull Ring is a motorsport racing circuit in Spielberg, Styria, Austria. Originally opened as the Österreichring in 1969, it was known as the GP Austria in Zeltweg in the 1970s. From 1997 to 2003 the course was run as an A1 ring before it was reopened on May 15, 2011 after extensive renovations.
The route, which is often mistakenly confused with Zeltweg, is actually in the municipality of Spielberg, just two kilometers from Zeltweg. The circuit has seven right-hand turns and three left-hand turns, including prominent sections such as an uphill right-hand bend, the hairpin and fast left-hand turns in the infield. The route for Formula 1 remained unchanged, but in 2022 it received an alternative layout at turn two with a new chicane for motorcycle racing.
The race track is located in Aichfeld, Upper Styria, and is surrounded by slopes that are used as natural grandstands. This gives the track an arena-like characteristic, offers a good overview of the racing action and ensures a scenic atmosphere during the races. The Red Bull Ring is also known as a venue for various events, including Formula 1, Motorcycle World Championship, DTM and ADAC GT Masters.
